Salem Krieger

CommoN is a collaboration project between sculptor Richard Newton and photographer Salem Krieger, incorporating sculpture, photography and video, focusing on words and expressions that are frequently used in everyday conversation.

While the words and expressions are simple, they carry a multitude of meanings. Salem and his co-collaborator fabricate words from steel, prepare them for burning and set them ablaze. Additional layers of meaning are embedded to the expressions by the way in which the fire burns.  

The intensity of the flames seem to add an attitude to the expressions. The wind is also a player because it dictates the robustness of the flames.
